Gucci Fall 2006 Ready-To-Wear Mini Dress – Dec 2. Fashion: Grocery Heiress Collection Auction (Lot 5014)

Milan Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2006 – Gucci – Runway

“I was thinking of David Bowie and the way people played with their image to be something different every time they went out in the seventies. It’s less romantic and more about energy and showing off,” Frida Giannini recalled when discussing this Gucci collection, which debuted in 2006.

That year marked a turning point both for Giannini and for the brand itself. She was named sole Creative Director for Gucci, beginning a nine-year tenure that saw her infuse the house with her distinctively bold and glamorous vision. This runway was among her first steps in defining Gucci for a new era, balancing reverence for the past with an eye on contemporary culture.

Lot 5014 in Phoenix Mill’s Fall Fashion Auction is a shorter version of Look 24 from this pivotal collection. The piece embodies the spirit Giannini described: a mix of 1970s glam energy and early-2000s sleekness, designed to command attention. More than just fashion, it represents a moment in the industry when the creative helm of a global luxury house was handed to a woman at a time when such appointments were rare.
