Catalogue note:
Elizabeth Holtry received her Bachelor's in studio art from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Master's in painting from the University of Cincinnati. She has exhibited her work in many regional and national venues, including at International Arts and Artists at Hillyer, Washington D.C.; American University; Stephen F. Austin State University, and the University of Delaware. Her satirical paintings and embroidered drawings address prejudicial attitudes toward unpopular fauna, such as hyenas, rats and insects. Holtry is a professor of visual art at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsville, Maryland, and lives in Frederick, Maryland.

  • Provenance: * Janet L. Stanley was chief librarian at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C. until 2024. Over the course of her 50-year career, Janet built a personal collection of art from Africa numbering more than 450 works. One hundred works from her collection have been donated to the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art.
